Community InvolvementSLFCU members and our sponsor, Sandia National Laboratories, have been active in the community for over half a century. The Credit Union is proud to help support the community in many ways, including sponsorships, scholarships, donations, and volunteer work.
Our employees and members also support many other programs by volunteering or donating money. You can see more and become involved in our community by selecting "Donate or Volunteer" at the left of this page.
Children's Hospitals and Credit Unions for Kids Through the Children's Miracle Network program we support the UNM Children's Hospital and Oakland Children's Hospital by encouraging cash donations and raising funds through sale of special Gund stuffed animals, Sandy the Lab mascot toys, employee raffles, casual day campaigns, and other activities. In cooperation with the Credit Union Association of New Mexico, SLFCU has agreed to support a $1 million pledge for a new pediatric emergency care unit at UNM Children's Hospital. Help support our efforts by making a purchase when you visit an SLFCU branch.
Roadrunner Food Bank Using food donated by individuals, retailers and restaurants, this 2nd Harvest program distributes food to thousands of hungry New Mexico families all year long. More than 20% of New Mexico's population lives in poverty. Over 29% of children live in poverty. On a daily basis, Roadrunner Food Bank provides enough food for 66,000 meals for children, seniors and many working people below the poverty line. Collection bins for non-perishable foods are placed in our Albuquerque branches during the winter holiday season and in the parking lot during shredding events.
The American Red Cross Our involvement with the Red Cross began in 2000, when our members donated over $100,000 to help victims of New Mexico wildfires. Since then our members have generously supported Red Cross responses to disasters including the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the 2005 tsunami in South Asia, hurricanes on the U.S. Gulf Coast and many smaller local emergencies. For more information about how we support this cause, please click “The American Red Cross” at the left of this page.
Rachel's Courtyard This 6th floor courtyard at Presbyterian Hospital, named in memory of Rachel Laub, makes the outdoors more accessible for young patients. A collection barrel has been placed in the Juan Tabo branch office of SLFCU for used cell phones to raise money for furnishing and maintaining Rachel's Courtyard.
The United Way SLFCU employees generously support many different community organizations through The United Way. Employees participate through payroll deduction, creating and raffling off gift baskets during the winter season, as well as purchasing 'jeans stickers' for casual attire days.
